The Scots trailed for most of the third set and were down 22-17. Watkins tallied five kills in the first set, while Preston racked up 10 kills in the second set. Macalester closed out the day with a sweep of Luther, 25-22, 25-17, 26-24. Geber also contributed four of the Scots' 12 block assists. Defensively, junior Torrance Williams (Houston, Texas/Yes Prep Northbrook) registered 27 digs and Morrow had 21 digs. First year setter Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) delivered a career-best 55 assists while helping the team hit. Stratton finished with 12 kills, Geber had 11 kills and Watkins notched 10 kills to give Macalester four players with double-digit kills. Junior Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) tallied 19 kills, hit. Kills by Stratton and junior Stephanie Geber (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) helped the Scots score five of the final eight points to win the set and take the match, 25-10, 20-25, 25-16, 26-28, 15-7. First year Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) led the Scots with five kills in the set.ĭespite losing the fourth set, Macalester was determined to win the match, building a 10-4 lead to start the fifth set. ![]() The Pioneers held off match point twice, then took the set on a kill by Millie Leonard for a 28-26 win. The Pioneers responded with a 4-1 run to lead 24-22, but a kill by sophomore Grace Watkins (San Angelo, Texas/Georgetown) and two Grinnell attack errors gave Macalester a 25-24 edge. The Scots trailed early but came back to take a 21-20 lead. In the day's first match, Macalester won the first and third sets against Grinnell and were looking to close out the match in the fourth set. The Scots won all three of their matches at the Macalester Invitational this weekend to improve to 4-3 on the season. – The Macalester College volleyball team closed out the Macalester Invitational with two victories, defeating Grinnell College in five sets before beating Luther College, 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the Leonard Center.
